About “Cut and Tighten”

While I can’t give you the origin of the phrase that I’ve used, Cut and Tighten, I can share with you my inspiration behind the phrase. I had a college professor by the name of Sr. Mary McNichols and while I was in college I chose English as my major. Writing was going to be the lifeblood in this endeavor. In order for me to earn my BA Sister helped me by reading my papers. Somehow I could never write what most people would term the Reader’s Digest version and so Sister always brought home this important point to me with her writing “Cut and Tighten” on all my papers. All I saw were the words Cut and Tighten; and so as a result of this I felt that this would be an appropriate name for this blog.

The gentleman whose artwork you see is Peter Sarkisian ( http://petersarkisian.com/Book-2011) and I never would’ve heard of him had it not been for friends of ours that asked us to go to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. I was literally blown away by his art. What you can’t see in the pictorial representation is this little man crawling out of the binding and he is on a dictionary busily making revisions. Again it drove home the point of Cut and Tighten.

Writing is a journey and Sister pointed out to me that we just write; we shouldn’t be caught up in the words that we’re using and we shouldn’t be thinking and looking and editing at the same time. This is a very difficult concept for most of us to grasp. As an English Major I went out of my way in college to take professors who would assign essays as well as essay tests. I was never very good at guessing games so I chose all my courses based upon writing. For me writing has always been a journey. The thing about writing however is it’s a very personalized thing, and if you look at the links to my writing, while I’m not 100% pleased with every piece of the writing, I’ve revealed a little part of myself in each of these stories.

I’ll be adding more about my journey through time and additional Menu items:
